That's what I have in my two build. I use SS from the get go, forget the tube rectifier and use a sag resistor. I did ask this question and people here say they can hardly tell the difference.

Letting the rectifier tube warm up and then asking it to deliver current suddenly "hot switching" can cause the rectifier to pop. Merlin covers this here: The Valve Wizard
