'70's VT-40 - lockable reverb - original is tired - lost that old, original, big spacey sound. Just upgraded my old Peavey Classic 30 with a 3 spring option and looking to do the same here. Has anyone replaced a reverb in this amp before? Thanks in advance for your input - appreciated.

Fliptops claims to have a new one specially made to be like the original "type C", reasonably priced:

There won't be any funky lock on the new reverb, that's for sure. IIRC Ampeg run their reverb drive right off a tube plate, no transformer, just a cap to block DC. You can select 2 or 3 spring reverbs from Antique, Mojo and other sources, what's most important is you'll need the highest input impedance range on the tank. Personally I think the 3-spring reverbs have too long a decay time, gets in the way of the guitar sound. Like playing in an empty arena, the reverb never dies away. I prefer 2-spring reverbs. This isn't the future I signed up for.

I posted a comment on the blog about hiring bots to spam music related forums not being a very good idea.
The blog seems well written, I'm not sure the blogger even knows about the spamming, could be a 3rd party promo company.Originally posted by EnzoI have a sign in my shop that says, "Never think up reasons not to check something."

May be wrong, but it's showing a little more intelligence than the typical spambot, so I guess it's a human cloning viral techniques by hand, logging in like anybody else and "participting" in some threads, in a generaly useless way, just to drop the payload, which in this case is a cheesy pedal reviewing site.
Maybe after it's established as a trusted and popular site, it's used to push some specific brand and model
FWIW it's all over the Net, generally in guitar related sites such as TDPRI and similar, with deep analytical and very useful answers such as:
** this is what i am exactally thinking...!!
** wow... love your signature...
** hahha...Christmas is coming!!
** youtube and also google should help a lot...or you can check on websites
and so on.
In fact, has already gotten the boot on a couple sites, where (he/she/it ?) is listed a: "no longer a member" or "member not found" .
By the way, did I tell you about my wonderful secret site where I show you a secret lost since the time of the Pyramids, about a natural herbal secret formula to add inches of length and girth to your ....... pedalboard so you can stuff another one in there?
Just click add.inches.dot.c0m
EDIT: just another "Mandy Weideman" spec, often used by Trolls to get more attention than deserved: claims a gender and age combination which proves irresistible to most guys:

Go away!
We shouldn't have to put up with this in our forums. I say that a mod should delete the MandyWeidemann membership.

Interesting - outside of my original posted question and Leo_Gnardo's reply - seems that folks don't have the capacity to stay on topic. Thanks Leo_Gnardo - great cartoon by the way......I'll be taking the way-back machine elsewhere and finding a good reverb repalcement for the 1976 VT-40. Awesome posts guys - awesome. I hope you play better than you post & communicate.

Ummm, did you happen to read post #2 ? After I and Leo gave you good responses, you bailed on the thread and couldn't be bothered to respond or acknowledge our suggestions.
So this was pretty much a dead thread till resurrected by the spammer.
Now you decide to return and whine about the lack of reponse?
Loco indeed.Originally posted by EnzoI have a sign in my shop that says, "Never think up reasons not to check something."
