  • footswitchable 3 channel tube amp, (clean, crunch, lead)

Right now i am looking to buy a footswitchable 3 channel tube amp, (clean, crunch, lead), on the sonic range of the friedman brown eye. Plexi territory with lots of gain.

    For hard rock and metal.

Stock Marshalls simply don't do it!

Independent eq's would be good but not essential.
MIDI capability would be good but not essential.

Do you know of any amp that matches this criteria?

whats your budget? Does it gotta be big iron to play stadiums?

Assuming you want std concert >100W head, covering the bases from $5.7K to $1k:

        Diezel VH4S
        Diezel Hagen
        Soldano Decatone
        Engl Invader II
        Engl Savage
        Engl Powerball II
        Koch Powertone II
        EVH 5150 III
        Egnater Armageddon
        Peavey 3120

some are 3 channel, some are 4, some have Midi some do not, Features = $ You have to play them to decide, can't do anything word of mouth, but this is a good place to start, visit Germany maybe...many of these sound 10x better when cranked and can then be heard several miles away, caveat emptor!

I am not thinking about budget. I'l try to find it 2nd hand or just pay the price really.
I don't necessarily need a boutique amp or something rare and prestigious. It's just the sound!

About wattage anything above 30 watts is enough and does everything from practising home to playing live in Wembley stadium.

The diezel's all sound amazing specially the best; the VH4! Tried it and i consider it; but its not in the same sound territory. It sounds like a diezel and no other amp sounds like a diezel. But its not in the plexi territory!

I like the combination of a vintage with a modern refined sound. Such as the (friedman BE100, bogner shiva 20th anniversary or bogner ecstasy)

          Don't like soldanos!
The egnater armaggedon is on my mind yes, has midi but still sounds mid scooped!
Event Horizon PW3 or bogner ecstasy are on the list.

All the other amps you mentioned lack clarity of sound and are scooped mids and harsh sounding.

They don't have useful distortion for a soulful playing as i like. Like the tone of Steve Lukather from Toto.

Cheers Mark. Egnater Tourmaster 4100 is an excelent choice too! If clean, crunch, lead are footswitchable i might buy it!

I just heard in another forum from a member with a sound cloud clip about the peavey EVH 5153 which @tedmich had already mentioned.

Actually it sounds amazing! This is champagne at beer price! The crunch channel is like a friedman SS.
So the amps to consider are.

              EVH 5153
              Egnater Tourmaster 4100
              Event Horizon PW3
              Bogner ecstasy

Difference being i can buy right now the 5153 and egnater new, while the other two i need to save some more money or try find them 2nd hand!

Amp hunting is over for me!

              Thank you all!

                so some serious metal eh?

An oddball possibility is the Hughes & Kettner Tubemeister TM36H

                  @tedmich

Ahhhh, i like playing guitar and i want to produce my home album and i need a great guitar tone. Having a great amp will cover me every need plus i just like this stuff. Some people like cars; i like guitar gear!

played the tubemeister 18 which is the same as the 36 but 18 watts. It does not have enough gain!

Plus i always found Hughes & Kettner tube amps to sound quite static! But its quite good for what it does!

Luke plays Ecstasy, I have no idea what you want (more so what you don't) so opinions are pretty useless IMO, the only solution I see is you grazing for a couple hours in a super high end music store until you decide or they kill you, good luck!
