  • Reverb Tank Impedence Question

I have a question I'd like to ask about reverb tanks:
Will using a reverb tank that the resistances measure 28 ohms input & 210 ohms output to replace a tank measuring 56 ohms input & 208 ohms output be a potential problem in a Blues Jr.?
According to a chart I have the 28 ohm resistance would have an impedence of 310 ohms & the 56 ohm resistance would have an impedence of 800 ohms.
The replacement Belton tank sounds much better than the stock Accutronics tank.

    Thanks for your help!

Consider it a loudspeaker driven by an SS amplifier because that's exactly what it is: in principle halving the impedance would mean doubling the drive power, problem is whether the driving Op Amp can cope or not.

Some amps (Marshall for example) use lower impedance tanks and parallel 2 or 3 Op Amps to have more drive current available, in the case of the Blues Junior I guess they use only 1 .

Power involved is low, guess the driving amp won't "die" , at worst you'd have somewhat fuzzy reverb.

Thanks for the info. The reverb actually is clearer, cleaner & more defined. Less distortion than the original tank so I think it will be Ok based on your reply. Since it is an amp I've rebuilt from junker, I'll leave the tank in & see what happens.

It is probably fine, none of these amps are critical lab equipment, so there is a lot of leeway. I don't usually think in terms of impedance, I just look at the letters. The transformer drives in tube circuits really want an A input impedance. The others like D,E,F I generally assume will be OK if they are off one letter, as long as they sound OK.
Education is what you're left with after you have forgotten what you have learned.

Thanks Enzo. Like I posted above, the Belton tank sounds much better than the original.
