SImple I know..but I don't know.. extension speaker
My solid state amp extension speaker jack says 8 ohms min. if I connect that ext. speaker does that mean that I am running at 4 ohms? if both speakers are producing sound?
It says 8 ohm minimum because the internal speaker is probably also 8 ohm as well. As Enzo said, extension speaker jacks are usually just wired in parallel to the internal speaker. Most SS amps don't like to see less than a 4 ohm load.
^^^^^^ What they said. If you want to be sure, just plug a speaker cable into the external speaker jack with no speaker hooked up (make sure the other end isn't touching anything). If the internal speaker still works, the jacks are in parallel. If not, they are in series.

ok cool..so the amp doesn't want anything less than 4ohms. Thats why the label says 8 min. And it is in parallel accordng to the schematic. So does that mean I could plug in one 4ohm speaker if the stock speaker was disconnected? or replace the stock with a 4 ohm by itself?
We did once have a small fire on stage because someone had used an instrument cable between his amp and speaker cab. It had a jack plug on each end so it must be OK, right?
