I do not know where you are located and do not know where you looked. The first place I looked, Mouser, claim to have them in stock in all manner of packages and ratings. They do not appear to be particularly rare basedon cursory scans through a few other retail suppliers.

Google is also a very powerful tool and probably among the first places someone should try. I just did a search with the exact wording from your post and had many viable hits.

Most little P-channel JFETs will work, try a J174. Be aware the pinout might be different with differnt type numbers.

Go to Mouser and type J175 into the search. Then specify TO92 case style in the advanced search. They show a couple brands in stock. 48 cents or 26 cents, your choice.

Allied has the Vishay in stock for 58 cents.

Digikey has a couple thousand in stock for 43 cents each.

Jameco has the Fairchilds at 19 cents, and the Vishays for 34 cents.
