You are not the only one - around here wire gets stolen for the copper scrap value. Sometimes the thieves have attempted to take live wires, with newspaper headline results LOL
You mention 'skip' - & it reminds me of a summer spent on the Isle of Man as a film set carpenter. It took me a week to learn the Manx terms - your skip is our container, white wood is spruce and a 4x2 is 2x4 here. Oh, and 3/4 inch (18mm) plywood was made of unobtainium... good times in Port Erin.
The movie, btw, was the umpteenth remake of Treasure Island.

I didn't steal it just to confirm I knocked on the door first and the owner said help yourself!!! it would only be buried in landfill otherwise, seemed like an awful waste to me it's all 300/500 voltage solid core copper along with some coax and data cable.
