Can a regular stereo amp be used for guitar?

Folks who use high-end modellers, like the Fractal, Helix, or Kemper units, will use "hifi" power amps and P.A. speakers for their stage rigs. The amp and cab emulation that such units provide allow normally bland solid-state power amps to convey whatever sonic qualities the user wishes. Of course, in the absence of such emulation capabilities, stereo amps will yield all the blandness they possess.
