New to tube amps. I currently have a Vox AC30CH running into a VOX212C. My question is, how high should I set the master volume in order to charge the tubes. I am running the attentuator @ 1/3 amp in a medium sized practice area. I am currently running the master at 2 o'clock and the volume at 3 o'clock.

Not sure what you mean by "to charge the tubes" but if you mean how to reach power tube clipping and compression, which is a good thing, youŽll notice it by ear.
In very broad terms preamp clipping is thinner buzzier while power tube clipping is warmer smoother, so in principle set master volume low , start raising volume/gain until it definitely clips, then rise Master until you hear the timbre change I described.
This is just to find the power tubes own clipping point.
After that, set volume/gain back to any value you wish, but now you know that if/when you hear crunch it comes, at least in a significant part, from power tubes.
Mind you, it will be quite loudJuan Manuel Fahey
