  • Marshall valvestate v8040 (v40) with broken gain POT

Hey guys, i bought this fantastic amp Marshall V40 (very happy with it) but it has a broken (spline piece) and noisy gain POT. I'm considering changing the POT but i have a few questions first

    1. should this be attempted at all
Unsure if removing the solder can potentially damage the board

    2. is this the piece i'm looking for?
From the pictures i can't really understand what kind of pot this is, read A1M / 1BA

    here are the pictures:

Shaft does not appear long enough.
Here is a good copy of the schematichttps://drtube.com/schematics/marshall/8040-iss8.pdf
Here is the pot I would order https://www.tubesandmore.com/product...all-audio-16mm

if you are not skilled enough with soldering, please go get some broken electronic device, does not matter what and practice removing components.
This is the iron I currently use every day now, a temperature controlled soldering iron will do better for you than a a 30 watt soldering stick iron.

thank you for sharing the high def schematics ! The shaft seems small but it's actually broken and was glued back (god knows how that happened !? )

i've checked the link, which one is the appropriate ?

      Option Our Part Number UPC/EAN
      1 MΩ R-V1MA-M-16 609722158411
      100 kΩ R-V100KA-M-16 609722158282

Your pic shows A1M which means Audio 1 MegaOhm so this one 1 MΩ R-V1MA-M-16 609722158411

        Thanks,

It’s an easy repair if you have the requisite skills and tools. If not.. most guitarist tend to set their gain pots in the same position all of the time. You COULD simply cut a slot in the shaft with a Dremel and adjust it with a screwdriver... then leave it.
