Can I use a 15 watt head with a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe III?
Can I use a 15 watt head with a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe III?
I have a modded HR Deluxe III with a vintage Greenback speaker, and I'm curious how the speaker would sound with my 15w Bassbreaker head. Is it possible to connect the head and use the HRD as a passive cab?
Sure, if I understand you correctly. Just unhook the speaker from the Deluxe and hook up the 15W amp up to its speaker. Leave the HRD turned off. You shouldn't run a tube amp unloaded.

Oddly enough, right now my HRDlx is mostly being used as a thing to tilt my Bassbreaker 007 combo against. Just got the 007 in a trade and am enjoying it quite a bit. Need to try it with an external speaker cab next.
The easiest way I find to do this is to to hook the internal speaker up to a jack and the amp output up to a jack. If you want to use the combo amp, you just put a short speaker cable between the two.
