  • Hot plate 16 ohm question??

Hi group, I have a hot plate 16 ohm. And don't want to fry my head adding another cab. I have been running out of my head (16 ohm) into the 16 ohm hotplate into a 16 ohm speaker. I am wanting to run my new cab at the same time. The constants I have in all of this is my old cabs is 16 ohms. My new cab is 16 ohms and 8 ohms . My head is selectable 16 ohms (1-16 ohm cab) ---(8 ohms 1-8 ohm cab or 2x16 ohm cabs) and (4 ohms 1-4 ohm cab or 2x8 ohm cabs)

Starting off if I wasn't using a hot plate I would switch my head to 8 ohms and run into (2) 16 ohm cabs. Can I still use the 16 ohm hotplate with my two cabs? Hopefully someone here can help and thanks for taking the time to respond.

As long as you match the amp impedance to the hotplate you'll be okay running two 16ohm cabs plugged into the hotplate.
According to THD this is safe to do, the amp still sees a 16 ohm load.
I frequently use this set up running either one of my Marshalls or AC30 into the 16ohm hotplate into two 16ohm cabs....the tone controls will be less effective, but it's okay to do.
Nothing cooler than my AC30 also driving a Marshall 4x12!
