  • Mojo Vitamin T's Correct Orientation

I'm building a blackface champ and ordered some Mojo vitamin t's oil filled signal caps. I was told that the outside foil should be on the low impedence side I'm new to amp building and I'm not quite sure what would be the Low Impedence side. If i were to guess I would say the ground side would be the low impedence side but I was doing some reading on the subject and found at least if im correct, that the low impedance side is the plate of the previous stage. I'm not sure if i'm correct but should I connect the outside foil to the plate lugs of the 12AX7 or am I totally missing it. Any help would be appreciated.

    DP,

While making no judgemental comment on overpriced boutique parts that you'll probably never notice any result from <grin> in general the impedance between the cathode and the control grid is greater than the impedance between the anode and the cathode so the plate "should" be the lower impedance. But this assumes that the grid return (leak) resistor of the following stage is sufficiently high that is does not present a lower impedance than the plate to ground impedance of the stage where you're installing your platinum and sperm whale oil cap <'nother grin>.

      Thanks Rob,

I was asking myself if these would really make a difference thought it wouldnt hurt to try them once, I think in the future I'll just stick with the Mallory 150's anyway live & learn, Thanks for your help.
