  • rack chassis wanted, where can I get one?

I'm wanting to build a high gain preamp along the lines of a JCM800, maybe adding more valves for get it into SLO100 territory. However, I can't find a source for a complete 1U rack chassis.

    Anyone? (UK preferably)

Try entering "rack chassis" into google. For me it returned 3.48 million hits.

A while back when I was looking into a project, I had no trouble finding boocoo suppliers of them.

thanks Enzo, I can of course do that, but like you say - 3.48 million hits (I want to build the preamp in this lifetime y'know, ha ha). I suppose I should have said I'm looking for recommendations of places that sell such an item.

Commercial computers use 19 inch rack cabinets, try a computer recycler or someone who repairs server type gear. You should be able to find one for a couple of Quid.
I bought one here in New Zealand for $20 a few weeks ago. ( about 3.80 Pounds)

Maplin sold 1U, 2U, 3U and 4U rack cases last time I looked.
"Enzo, I see that you replied parasitic oscillations. Is that a hypothesis? Or is that your amazing metal band I should check out?"

Oh, I forgot about Bluebell. I just bought some Hammond transformers from them, too.

cheers lads, the Maplins ones aren't too expensive (around £25.00), I'll get one from there. Bluebell only sell rack cases from what I can see, not actual chassis and sub-chassis.

Find a dead 1-space rack unit of some sort, and gut it. Build your thing in it.

You should be able to find a dead compressor or active crossover or something.

Hammond, the same outfit that mfg's a line of the die cast aluminum enclosures our stomps use makes at least one complete rack chassis assy.
