which speaker?

Hi all first thread so please be easy. I am about to begin building a speaker cabinet for my senior project. I have been searching and just havent found what im looking for. I have been talking with my guitar teacher at school and he suggests I build a 4x10. I would like to know some information on what in your opinion would be the best speaker(s) for me to work around. I have always loved and will be looking for a Gilmour, or knopfler style sound. I have read Gilmour used Fane 12inch. So wich speakers would be a good safe bet. AXA10A's? Celestion G10? G10 Gold? tube 10? please help

Try a blend of 2 x ceramic and 2 x alnico magnets. Weber does some good quality 10" at very reasonable prices. 2CW

Ted Weber recommended two 30 watt 10A125's and two 25 watt 10F150's to me at one stage - I haven't tried that yet, but I aim to soon.

Well its worth splashing out for nice speakers.

Their signature range is also good (and about 1/2 the price)

o yes i dont want to get speakers bought then not be satisfied and have to buy new ones. Figure ill get the good ones on the first go around. Mayby if i can get some work ill be able to move this project along shortly.

i use the new jensen ceramics from antique electronics, they sound very fendery. try the p10r alnicos for a little more warmpth. ive heard good things about emenence patriot series, ragun cajun, red white blue etc. also a place called warehouse guitar speakers makes celestion copies at half the price and ive heard they sound better than real celestions.

If you're on a budget, build a 1x12" instead. If you only have to buy one speaker instead of four, you can afford a better one. Weber and Warehouse Guitar Speakers come recommended, there are lots of posts on the forum singing their praises.

"Rich" and "warm" are fairly meaningless as adjectives go, but typically a bigger speaker will sound "richer" and "warmer" than a smaller one. For that reason, I'd prefer 12s over 10s. Some guitarists use a 15" but that's too fat for most.

Celestion and Fane can be very expensive if you don't live in the UK, because of import duties. Fane recently went back into business and brought out a new line of speakers, however. Might be worth a look if you absolutely have to have what Dave Gilmour had. They claim that the new speakers are made in the same factory out of the same stuff as the old ones.

IMO, Gilmour and Knopfler were all about the Strat. If you want to sound like them, get a Strat. If you already have one, all you need is a nice tube amp and a little practice.

i have found the speakers i will buy there not great but there very cheap so i think at the price they are ill give them a shot
how do you wire a 4x10 with 4 8ohm speakers?
