  • Designing a 50W 2 channel....

    Hey guys,

I am fairly new to diy electronics. with that being said, i am in the design/layout process of building my own tube head and 4x12 cab. I know many of you will say, "don't start with such a complicated project, make a fender blues jr instead."

To that I say, suck it!

I always bite off what seems like too much to chew but I succeed.

Now, I know the tone i am after, (I play metal and heavy melodic rock) and it would be best described as that of a JCM2000.

i plan to build a 3 position preamp (3 12ax7's) and 4 EL34's ( i was thinking of going with groove tubes as they have a jcm package (3 matched {if thats possible anymore!!} package) and use a hand wired board layout....

any recommendations or ideas out there for me???

    Thanks,

    Jeff

Why does it take 4 EL34's to make 50W?
WARNING! Musical Instrument amplifiers contain lethal voltages and can retain them even when unplugged. Refer service to qualified personnel.
REMEMBER: Everybody knows that smokin' ain't allowed in school !

i guess it doesn't but i want to make it a 2 channel and i was planning on running the two channels seperate the whole way through the power amp section to rejoin them just before the output jack to the speakers ...

I was thinking that it might give some unique tone on both channels...
or maybe go sp that i could go with a different tubeset in the clean channel...

what i really wanted to do originally, was to have two seperate "amps" on one chassis...
