  • two stroke schematic help

ok guys as stated in the earlier thread Im ordering parts to build dave hunters two stroke single ended amp but I want to make some mods and dont know enough to just do it... here are my questions

from the schematic can you tell me if there is a way to add a pre-amp out jack to the amp?

also there is a boost switch added here, do you guys have any suggestions to add a jack to not only control the boost switch manually on the amp but also by a foot switch if the cord is pugged in

thanks for your help on my first build

Hi, is that a rough schematic or the definitive one?
Because as-is it lacks a couple ground connections in both transformers and the center tap in the power one.
Does it use 2x 5Y3 or is it just some funny way to draw it?

you are right I just found that image online ill find a better one... yeah it is suposed to only have one 5y3... ill find a better schematic, thats different than the one in my book

Well, looks good, anybody with keener eyes might find something wrong, I did not.
Makes me remember my first guitar amp, a Gibson GA-5, it only had volume, no tone, boost, nothing.
Boy !, was I proud when I finished it !

Dave had called me a few years ago when he told me he was going to write this.
With respect to my old 5 watt Soulkicker Jr and his project, I thought I told him to install the small uF cap (I was using 1uF) across the fixed cathode biasing 1500 ohm resistor on the preamp... all the time and just switch the larger one in as the boost.
If you use a 47K resistor in series with the larger uF cap and only switch across the resistor, it won't pop as bad. I think because it will have a little DC voltage leaked onto it, where the the pop comes from.
With a SPDT center off switch (what I actually used) you can have it both ways.... a small bypass cap, a bigger bypass cap or no bypass cap.

thanks bruce for the info I will definately do that!

can you tell me if there is a way to wire in a jack to control the boost from a footswitch as well as from the three way on the amp

also is there a way to wire a pre-amp out

im gonna try different things, im just doing as much research as i can now before its actually together

              thanks

Yes but it gets noisy if you start dragging switched signal stuff outside the chassis into a mechanical push on push off switching pedal.
A small DPDT relay will work fine if you want to build a small low voltage power supply for it.
I think RG Keen has some stellar info on small switching pedals too.
Or, speaking of FETs to switch... or shunt around the 47k resistor, look at the fat switch in something like a Fender Vibroking for more info.
