  • build suggestions? push/pull 15watts with reverb?

want some suggestions for a build.
have parts for a push pull 2+6v6 amp.
want a fender blackface era clean sound.
thought of a princeton reverb but don't really want the tremelo and wanted a slightly simpler build.
    any suggestions?

Well in that case, why not build a Princeton Reverb with the tremolo circuit left out? That'll make it simpler.
"Enzo, I see that you replied parasitic oscillations. Is that a hypothesis? Or is that your amazing metal band I should check out?"

Ha ha ha... the obvious alludes us at times.
Since the PR uses a simple oscillator to alter power tube bias to get it's "vibrato", it only needs one triode.
You'll need four preamp tubes to build this as a PR with no Vibrato, so you'll have one triode left over.
You could use the left over triode for a mild preamp boost section with a gain control, or use the triode as a cathode follower to drive the tone section.
I have made a few amps like this using a 12" speaker and for their size, they are killer!
With a good 12" AlNiCo speaker, muscular and LIGHT weight.

I just finished a 5E3 build and used the single tube reverb. Sounds great, I paralleled the first preamp and added an extra tube for the reverb. So far, haven't felt the need to change the single tube for the normal parallel driver and single recovery stage. There's good verb, it's not over the top surf reverb or anything like that. Just adds some nice dimensions and even maxed out it's not out of control.

Good cleans, medium overdrive, nice relaxed reverb. It's a sweet build

michael allen - that's what i'm gonna do!
i think i'm gonna do a sort of 5e3/harvard thing with 1 tube reverb.
if i do the harvard thing i could even do the 3 triode reverb right?
can you tell me a bit more about why the one tube reverb seems to be preferred over the usual fender style by a few people around these parts?

              Hi tubescent

If you try the 1-tube verb idea in a 5E3 and find its not to your liking (and I'm not gonna say it won't be), then you probably may want to think again about a BFPR minus the trem (if you don't want that - but its real easy to switch the trem off if you do happen to build it in ;-) ). The BF front end is made for reverb.

Another way would be to put a 6G15 unit in front of a 5E3. The Fender stand-alone reverb is truly wonderful, and lends untold flexibility to your amp collection, provided you make the effort to lug the extra unit around at gigs.

Or a yet slightly different way if you are into kits - Weber does an identical thing as an add-on (which you might need a slightly larger cab for than a stock 5E3 cab).

Parallel stage for V1? (would be really easy)

i wonder if that would have to much gain?

Slight increase in volume and a slight decrease in noise.

And a fatter tone, esp being in V1 'n'all.

(You could make it switchable Scott, and get the best of both worlds)
