  • Thoughts on my new project

Hey guys, been away a LONG time, messing with a few projects right now, debugging a tweed-bf champ conversion (which was the only semi working amp in the house!) Debugging a 5e3x2 (did the paulc mod, and like it better, i think i may not be a "tweed fan") and ordered a new kit.

Lil backstory, been modding on and off for years, used to hang out on ampage before MEF, and modded and built a few amps. A couple years back i quit the amp thing, sold off most of my "nicer" gear (including an untouched DC-30 kit for half of what i paid for it) and got a H&K statesman head and a traynor 4-12.

I liked that rig, not great, but not bad. and took up much less space than having a soldano head+cab, Fuchs conversion Head +cab, Z-28 head and cab and a Boogie Stilleto ace.

Fast forward a few years,a nd a buddy gets me to join his metal band on bass (i hadn't played in a band in a long time) after a year on bass, the lead player quits and go to guitar. They were LOUD and extra-metally, and my poor H&K couldn't handle it. Went with a dual rectum friar (needed 2 dirty channels and a lead boost, which it had) and all was good.

Quit the band (sick of metal) and got rid of the boogie, now i have no main amp (having sold my smaller combos to buy bass gear)

Ok, so i realized, i like BF cleans, and Marshall (80's-90's) leads, which never seem to live together nicely in a single cabinet. after much deliberation, i decided on a weber kit, a 6a14hp, a 30-35 watt princeton reverb. I figure it should get the clean sound i want, and i can use on of my pedals for dirt (Zvex BOR) That gives me a nice compact grab and go to a jam type amp, loud enough for a drummer (i hope!) that will sound good.

    Any thoughts?
