  • Push Pull OT for 6AK6s

Can anyone give me a suggestion for an OT for 2 6AK6s in push pull. I'm working on a project and the numbers are driving me crazy.

I would use a hammond 125C. It is overkill on the power output rating, but it is cheaper than the A of B model. It is a universal transformer so that might be confusing but it has a chart for hook up or which wires to to use for what impedance speaker equals what primary impedance. By looking at the 6AK6 data sheet, it says load impedance is 10K ohms in class a for a single tube, so you want to see around 20K Plate to plate in Push pull. ( the hammonds 22K for 4 ohm, 22.5K for 8 ohm should work just fine). The good thing about this transformer is you can try different ones and see which sounds best to you.

You could also make any 3 watt + 8K - 10K primary impedance rated transformer work by hooking up a 16 ohm speaker to an 8 ohm secondary for example (or using an 8 ohm speaker on a tap meant for 4 ohm)

Thanks again for the info. It just happens that I dug a used 125 C or E out of the scrap iron box the other day to experiment with.

You're welcome. I have a couple of the 125 E .. I was looking for a C at the time, but I found these 2 on a close out inventory deal so I got them for $20 each (brand new in sealed boxes)and since they handle even more power, I thought " well, now that IS sweet" . I used one in an 18 watt and the other I keep free to tinker with different tubes on.
