I built a Fender Blackface Champ (AA764) using the AX84 chassis layout. Great first build feeding a 12" speaker that takes pedals very well but is mostly a clean amp.

You may want to consider using one of stingers plexiSE boards ( Plexi SE PCB ) as a first build as he provides a parts list an direction. Build the "cascade" JCM800 version of the build for higher gain.

Buy the board and parts and either build into a Valve Jr chassis or use the AX84 chassis layout as a basis.

Think I've found my starter project!!!

      Clicky!!

then there's also the bonus of a 36w version which given what peeps have been saying may actually be loud enough for gigging... and reasonably cheap compared to some of the kits too...

        Shugs,
You won't be disappointed! I recently built the SL-18 TMB, which begins as a PP-18 and adds another pre-amp stage and the tone stack. The PP-18 sounded great and the SL-18 even better. It is awsomely loud - too loud for the spare room - so the 36W version should be even more impressive if you go for that.
The service from Ampmaker is great too. The construction guide is very clear and if you take the necessary care when you build the amp, it will work first time without any hum or other weird noises.
