  • What to build besides a 5E3?

So I have a tweed deluxe output and power transformer but I don't want to build a 5E3. Anyone out there have any suggestions. The OT is a 1750E and the power transformer is 310-0-310 with a 120v primary. I'd like to keep things simple maybe only one channel and go for clean headroom.

Single channel black face Princeton Reverb without the actual reverb but keep the extra gain stage with a little tweak to the mixing circuit.

Do you know if there are any schematics around with what you suggested?

          How about one of these

YouTube - Phil X and TONEMONSTER

          I think they are also 2 x 6v6

Ok so I've decided I want to try taking the BF Princeton idea but without the trem or reverb and build it using the other 12ax7 triode for a LTPI. Im not sure how to implement this idea exactly. I have what I believe to be a rough schematic of the idea but the component values are where I get a little lost. Would I just use the typical fender normal channel values for the first 2 gain stages and tonestack then have the output of that feed into the typical LTPI? The reason I ask is because I though the channels mix before the LTPI in most 2 channel fenders.

If anyone can help with this one it would be great.

            Cheers

If you are going to do it without the 'verb, for goodness sake put a bias-wiggle trem in. You'll still have more than enough stages to turn it into a gain monster. And since you are going to do an LTP, copy the 5G9 PI and output stages, together with the 5G9 LFO stage(s). Then it'll smoke.

If I were to do that why not just build a 6G2? Brown Princeton

You could always build an 18 or 20 watt Marshall variation.

Big thing for me is the use of the 1750E output its only rated at 15W. I have this Iron on hand and would like to use it. As far as I know that wont cut it in a marshall build. Id like to keep things simple and aim for a decent clean tone.

The 5G9 trem (i.e.: with the CF stage) is fantastic. The 6G2 trem is so-so

Tubeswell do you think you could assist me with the design for this idea. Do you think the iron i've mentioned will still be suited for a project like this?

                          That's what I think.
My 6G3 has a trem similar to the 6G2 (half a 12AX7) and my 5F4 I built with the trem of a 6G11 Vibrolux (i.e. similar to the 5G9 with a whole 12AX7).
The "whole tube trem" is more, well... LUSH.
And I think you'll get all the assistance you need from this forum.

yep 310-0-310 will be okay for a 5G9 or 5E9A type build. Whether you can get away with a 5U4G rectifier will depend on the rating of your 5V winding (A 5U4G needs 3A). Otherwise I'd go for the 5G9 circuit, because its slightly cleaner with more bite and takes pedals very well. A 5E9A is a little raunchier than a 5G9, but has less output power overall, and doesn't have output tube bias wiggle trem. If the PT doesn't have a separate bias tap, just tap the bias supply from one side of the HT winding, like a 6G2 or AA1164. (Mind you, if you want to go for a 6G2 trem, you can improve the trem immensely with a mosfet source follower if you don't have a spare tube triode.)

You would just use the 6V6 variation rather than an EL84. There are a bunch of schemtics over at 18watt.com. A diode rectifier and an LED power lamp would free up some heater current for more 12AX7s.
