    Hello all,

I just finished building my first amp, a Tweed Princeton (Mojotone kit) with a Jensen C8R speaker. Basically, it's just a champ circuit with a tone control.
I build it and an experienced builder helped me fire it up and measured if everything was ok. So after "debugging" it (it turns out that there were some wrong parts in the kit) I finally could fire it up. Man, what a disappointment. It just sounds bad. Actually, it sucks. I heard some Mojotone Champs and Deluxes before and they all sounded great.

First of all, maybe the speaker is not what I'm looking for. I'm probably going to replace it with an Alnico speaker. I also think that the 8" speaker may be too small for that cab. Anyone have any experience with these amps? I'd like to replace it with a 10" in the future. Can I just swap it or do I need to change some parts for that?
I'm clueless here. Really, a Champ, which is smaller and cheaper, sounds 1000x better.
All info is welcome. I'm looking for an old-school, Chicago Blues tone.

Here is what I would do... Unplug the 8, and plug into a 4x12 ; then listen to it and go from there...

Well you know how it is. You do some silly mistakes like getting the speakers polarity wrong. He's just embarrassed now. ;-)
