  • help with voltages on first amp build(50w metroamp)

Hey guys I was hoping someone could help me here since the metro forum is fried from a virus right now.But I acquired a 50w kit from valvestorm to finally own a tube amp so I went this route and considering how much I have learned and love to tinker with stuff this has really got me crazy into amp building etc.I will post a picture of my build very soon but the weird thing is I was checking voltages today and everything is checking out exactly the way it should be.I don't have the tubes in though to give that detail because they wont get here until next week but the only thing wrong is for some reason I am not getting voltages on v1,v2,and v3 for pin 8 and 3?? all three of them?? but everything else power, heaters, all pins on power tube sockets have right voltages except pins 3 and 8,the rectifier and fuse holders have the right voltages. So I went ahead and redid the joints on the sockets and still nothing sooooo I redid the joints from the sockets going to the ptp board and nothing so whats wrong lol?? I have learned alot but I of course still dont know enough to trouble shoot myself but the only pins that are not getting voltage again is on pin3 and 8 of v1,v2,and v3 but thanks guys and please respond back-Jake

sorry the picture isn't very big but you guys know what pins im talking about every yellow wire lol

Pins 3 & 8 are the cathodes. It is normal not to have voltage there when the tubes are not installed. This is because the cathodes are not directly connected to the power supply. The voltage there is generated when current flows through the tube and then on through the cathode resistor.

Ha ha alright thank you so much! I thought it maybe it had something to do with them maybe being connected through the tubes, there is some else I know know! lol thank you and I cant wait to get this bad boy going! thanks again!
