  • My first successful scratch build!

Finally! I have a working guitar amp that was hand-built by me. It still needs some tweaking but the damned thing works! After months of experimenting and trying different things (along with my regular amp repairs) I have what is mostly a tweed 1958 Fender Bassman 5F6A circuit. Now comes the tweaking and fitting with an appropriate speaker, and I have a true, hand-wired, point-to-point all-tube amp at a cost of pennies on the dollar.

Two characteristics of myself that I value is my persistence and determination and they finally paid off.

No pics yet, but I will take some once it's done.

He's like a new set of strings... he just needs to be stretched a bit.

Very cool that you did true point-to-point wiring. I'm looking forward to seeing the photos.

I had to Tom, I've tried several boards and I just couldn't get them to work. Granted this is a very simple circuit, but doggone, it feels great to finally accomplish a hand-build.

Please excuse my mess, I will clean up the wiring and component placement for the new chassis it's going to go in.

There have been discussions about the pros & cons of P-T-P wiring. Without getting into all that I'll just say that it's high value artwork to me and great satisfaction. Especially for a one off build.

I did, or started, a point to point amp once. Only thing i was sure of at the end is that my head is most likely not point to point wired. Frustrated i turned to the goodol' board.

Congrats, must be a nice feeling I'd imagine, hope to have the same one day.

                Congrats!!

I remember my first one, a 5e3. I sold it a long time ago and soon it's going to be shipped back to me to fix it. After close to 6 years of operation it has experienced a problem. I'm eager to find out what ails it.
