  • Using a 1M instead of 2M for speed pot on Tremolux

Can't find a 2M pot with a SPST switch at full CCW. If I sub in a 1M instead isn't that just going to limit my speed to the slower half of the original range/taper?

No, more resistance equals slower speed. High speeds are limited by a resistor in series with the pot.
WARNING! Musical Instrument amplifiers contain lethal voltages and can retain them even when unplugged. Refer service to qualified personnel.
REMEMBER: Everybody knows that smokin' ain't allowed in school !

ah ok. So adding a 1M resistor with the 1M pot would achieve the aforementioned state?

Adding the 1M resistor in series with a 1M linear pot would give you the range between 1 and ~5 of a 2M linear pot. Perhaps replacing the 220k resistor across the pot in the 5E9-A would restore the faster speeds but it would probably affect the taper. I just did the math and the net resistance at 10 with the original 2M pot is ~198k and with a 1M pot is ~180k. I am not familiar with the 5E9-A so I have no idea whether that would be acceptable.

P.S. Fender switched to a reverse audio pot in later versions of the Tremolux- I wonder if that would make improve the ooeration of the speed knob...

          Yes, resistance is futile, earthling!
