I messed around with a SE amp I build a while back. Found that the greatest bang for my buck to get rid of hum was to increase the capacitance on the screens. More often than not now days I run the heaters from a laptop brick, mind you I tend to use 12V or higher heater tubes (much cheaper also, bought 12V6's for $7 a piece). Six volt switching supplies are harder to find cheap, the laptop ones go for about $3 in thrift stores around here.
