Here's the latest of where it stands. I've got the latest schematic (just the audio circuit, not the PS). I've ordered a new power transformer so I can add about 30-40V to the B+. Right now it's got too much gain (around 00:40 in the audio, I have it cranked. 1:04 in the audio is about as clean as it gets right now). I'm hoping the 30-40V will buy me a little more clean headroom, but I also need to make some changes to the circuit to reduce the gain a bit.
Overall, I like the tone, though.
The biggest change I made was swapping stages between the triode and pentode in the 6U8. That really improved things a lot.
I also want to add in the other side of the 12AT7 and bias it differently and see if that adds any value. If it doesn't, I'll just turn the other half of the 12AT7 into a tremolo circuit (hate to let half a tube go to waste).
