What a bunch of anti-teflonites! I dont see any problem with teflon if the layout is good. Its not like you're going to be dragging the inside of the chassis around on the ashphalt.
If a person is just learning I think it's best to use all types of material. Different stuff makes different requirements and can be difficult to work with until you get the hang of it. Of course I dont think it is a requirement.
I like the stuff and prefer it for all new construction. It is $$ though.

Personally I wouldn't go so far as to call it "bad". Just suggesting the idea that it's good to try to understand the pros and cons of the wire that is being used and use (or not use) accordingly. For example, the stiffness could make a difference, so maybe go to a thinner gauge or use a bit of glue to add mechanical reinforcement. The price isn't necessarily a deterrent if you can find it surplus.
