  • Noob 5E3 Grounding Questions

    Hi,

After reading through forums I was going to try the grounding scheme in the photo here. I will have a PT lug and will attach to it the grounds from the Ground Switch, power cable, and pilot lamp. For the other stage I was going to run a bus wire along the back of the pots and connect the three grounds from the board and each pot.

    Is that right?

    Thanks.5e3 Grounding.pdf

    Never use a ground switch.

Use a 3 pin power socket and ground the chassis to mains ground, remove the ground switch altogether.

FWIW I have sometimes tried to incorporate star grounding schemes to classic Fender designs and ended up with more noise and other crap. Best advice I heard was to connect grounds of each preamp stage together.

As for a buswire across the pots that is the same idea as Fender using a brass plate under the pots and jacks.

I would experiment using jumper cables to see what grounding scheme works best for you.

Follow the ground scheme in post 4 of this thread: http://music-electronics-forum.com/t12663/

That layout is for different power tubes so the wiring will need to be modified for 6V6s.
WARNING! Musical Instrument amplifiers contain lethal voltages and can retain them even when unplugged. Refer service to qualified personnel.
