I am gutting an amp with 3-12ax7's and 2 6L6GC's, with a 5Y3GT rectifier. I am looking for bassman type amplifier ideas. Anyone got any good links for schematics of such a beast?

Take a peek at the Trainwreck Express schematics, which call for either an EL34 or 6L6.
It is similar to the Bassman.See the birth of a 2-watt tube guitar amp - the "Dyno Tweed"

You need a PT with sufficient volts/amps ratings on the secondary windings to run the right type of recto tube and the right type and number of output tubes and preamp tubes, (although pre-amp tubes don't use that much current, so its not supercritical unless you are running lots of preamp tubes off the PT- LoL). If your particular combination of tubes draws above the rated current of the PT at the voltage you have set them to run on, you will blow your PT.
You also need an OT with the correct primary 'load resistance' (not what the OT primary measures on a meter, but the resistance it produces when you are pumping heaps of volts through it). See the attached datasheets for operating conditions. If you don't have the approximately correct load resistance on your OT, you will wear out your output tubes faster, and the amp won't sound as good.Building a better world (one tube amp at a time)

I don't know why I didn't think about that... I already bought a big OT for it, which has the proper load for 6L6GC's. The PT is sut up for a 5Y3GT recto, and 3 pre tubes, which I want to retain. Basically what I am looking to do it remove all the PTP stuff and install a new circuit on a tagboard (along with all new sockets). I will probably do a little cobbling together, actually. Set up the 6L6 output section with it's PI, then choose a tone stack and preamp setup. I hope to be able to put in pre and master volumes.
