  • Tweed Harvard power transformer

I’m looking to build a tweed Harvard-ish clone and I’m somewhat confused about transformers available. I see two Harvard specific transformers available: Hammond 290HAEX and the Mercury FTWHARV-P. They have very different HV tap voltages. The Hammond is 275V and the Mercury is 357v. At first I thought the Hammond might be for a brown Harvard but it has the 50v bias tap. Anyone have any idea which is closer to spec? The schematics I’ve seen do not list hv Ac voltages On the transformers. Thanks!

    Which circuit are you cloning?
    There is a 5F10 and a 6G10.
I would think the 6G10 as the 5F10 uses a 6AT6 input tube.
The 6G10 circuit uses the 125P1A power transformer.

I think the 290HAEX lines up with the 5F10 and 6G10 would be a 290AX.

5f10. I’ll be doing the preamp a bit differently but it will be basically the same as the late 50s style.

correct. Both the mercury and the Hammond I mentioned appear to be for the 5f10 (Based on the presence of the 50v bias tap) but they have very different hv secondary voltages. I’m wondering why that is.
