  • Linear or Audio Taper Pots

I'm putting together a parts list for my first build (Portaflex clone) and the plans I have don't specify if the pots for bass, treble, and volume are linear or audio taper. What type of pots should I be using?

    Thanks,

    Greg

General rule of thumb is audio taper for volume controls and linear for frequency controls. The reason being your ears perceive volume on a log scale but frequency on a linear scale.

With respect to tone controls, I don't think I've ever heard that general rule of thumb.
Greg, find some amps you like and look at their schematics to see what taper of pots they use.

        Hi Greg,

the factory schematic of the B-15N shows 1M log for both bass and treble controls, 1M lin for volume (IMO log would be better).

        Cheers,
        Albert
