  • Lurker wanting to build a bass guitar preamp

Hey everyone! Looking to build a rack mount bass preamp in a single U. Is it possible to model it after another amp!? And if so

how and where do I start

Everything is possible given enough time and money.

I would say pick the amp that you want to emulate, hopefully you can get a schematic for it, and then figure out how to make it work. One problem is if the preamp has tubes it can be pretty hard to get components (like power transformer) to do that in a 1U rack space.

It's not so hard to work around the transformer issue, if you are in North America or other place with 120V Mains.
WARNING! Musical Instrument amplifiers contain lethal voltages and can retain them even when unplugged. Refer service to qualified personnel.

Albert Kreuzer was a much respected member here, a World class Bass player, designed his own equipment, including a killer rack mount Bass preamp , but sadly passed away in 2011 or so.

Search for Albert Kreuzer Bass Preamp for more data, the one above is just a starter.

Im building a copy of the Alembic F2B preamp! I got a PCB from Frog Pedals
          https://frogpedals.com/index.php/pro...c-tube-preamp/

I'm making the one with off board linear (transformer) PS as I avoid switch mode or charge pumps supplies mixing with my tubes...

thats said I may use it to drive a 170W IcePower module with built in SMPS
