I got a serious newbee question,

how close together can you mount turrets? and to the edge of the board without cracking it? is there a rule of thumb about it?
    a recent conversation,
..."why not just buy an amp?".. 'cause I'll just have to tear it apart and fix it anyway.

You've answered your own question I think. Its probably a matter of trial and error and how forceful you are with the turret-mounting equipment on your particular piece of board. I use quite thick board (like 1/8") and 4mm eyelets when I make mine, and I put the eyelets quite close to the edge of the board with no problems. You probably want to allow at least a couple of mm between where the wires and solder are going to end up in relation to each other on seperate turrets, in order to avoid unwanted arcing. (Remember that PC board traces in some valve amps can get real close)
