  • Alnico Blue + G12H for a JTM45

    Hi!

I've build a JTM45 kit and now I am looking for speakers. I thought that Alnico blue+G12H would be a nice combination in a 2x12 cab. I am a bit worried about the alnico blue (15W) which may be a bit pushed.

According to Marshall web page the JTM45 puts 30Watts of power, which means that the alnico blue would be fine. But since the Fender Bassman is virtualy identical and puts 45W, the Marshall model has the "45" on the name, and the KT66 have 400V on the plate.... I think that each speaker would get 22/25Watts. Do you think this is may be too much?

If you're worried, why not get an Alnico Gold instead. I agree the JTM45 could probably put out more than 30w if you dime it.
"Enzo, I see that you replied parasitic oscillations. Is that a hypothesis? Or is that your amazing metal band I should check out?"

Some time ago I did try a '65 JTM45 with a couple of old Marshall cabs and we did prefer the old M20 Celestions.

      The Heritage M20 comes close.
      Love, peace & loudness,

'But since the Fender Bassman is virtualy identical and puts 45W, the Marshall model has the "45" on the name, and the KT66 have 400V on the plate'
The OTs for KT66 tubes are generally about twice the primary impedance of 6L6 circuits, so a KT66 amp would need more B+ to get a bigger voltage swing across the higher impedance load, in order to get the same output power as a 6L6 amp.
A good AC30 will put out well over 30watts, before clipping.
My Gold is brighter and more forward than my Blues - still a great speaker though.
        Peter.

Somebody try these new speakers from Wharehouse Speakers for me and let me know if they are the magic bullet with respect to the JTM45s sound and KT66s...

If Alnico Blue is your game, this one sounds better to me then the WeberVST Alnico Blue dog...

And if the Celestion, Vintage 30 mixed with the G12-H30 is interesting, these sound very very good too...

I may do some taste tests in December, assuming I get the time. I'll let you know what I think Bruce.
