  • Mixing Vintage 30s and Greenbacks

    Hey all,

I'm brand new here, and i'm looking for advice. I have a 4x12 marshall with greenbacks, and i'm thinking about swapping 2 of them for some vintage 30s that i have. the question is - is this safe for the speakers?

they are both 16 ohm obviously, but the greenbacks do 25 watts each and the vintage 30s do 60 watts each. I've seen the avatar cabs which have this setup, is there a unique way to wire it?

    any help is appreciated!

as long as you don't exceed the wattage rating, then I don't see what could go wrong. Since you're stepping up the power handling on the speakers, I don't think you'll harm anything.

Just make sure that the impedance is correct! There are no special tricks to wiring them, AFAIK, except for wiring them in series or parallel. But assuming the new speakers have the same impedance rating as the old ones, don't rewire anything. Put in the new speakers and connect the leads to the new speakers however they were connected to the old one.
In the future I invented time travel.

just remember that 100w is the power handling of the cab, as the greenbacks will see the same power as the vintage 30's
