  • Bogen Challenger 20 Combo

Well I got two old Bogen PA amps last week. Yesterday I started building a combo cab for the first one. Here it is so far,

Sorry for the cell phone pics. Cannot find my camera batteries.

    Bogen conversion cab

I did something pretty similar by using some Lowe's lumber braces and flipping the chassis upside down. The Bogen chassis was gutted and I added an extra 12AX7 for a one tube reverb to turn it into a Carolina Blues Special.

      schematic and layout Bogen style

This isn't the exact schematic I used in the photo'd amp cab but similar.

      Very nice sounding amp, IMO.

        Bogen conversion chassis interior

I found gutting this amp & using terminal strips with new components to be relatively inexpensive to do.

Looks very classy Tubenit. I am reall diggin this little amp. I ordered the tube sockets and reverb tanks to add reverb to both that I have. I will definitely be adding that. I also have chickenhead and fender amp knobs coming to update the stock knobs. The stock knobs have to much of an old Military look to them.

At really low volume, like 2, the amp has a nice clean rich tone. Everything above 4 is very overdriven. Lovin it.

            Bogen conversion

I think you'll enjoy the reverb on that amp. I thought it helped give the amp a fuller and warmer tone to it.

As a side note, I bought vinyl for the cab I covered and it cost $7 at a local fabric store and was pretty easy to work with. The Bogen was bought dirt cheap off ebay (before the Bogen prices soared) and with new parts, new tubes, speaker and cab .......total was around $225.

It sounded better to me than the vintage Princeton Reverb I owned which I ended up selling.
