  • my recent "5e3" clone needs a cabinet and.....

    i think i have one.

    i have one of these radios as seen in the attached picture, except the one i have is in a lot worse shape. the radio works, but there is an intermittent issue that i just don't feel like chasing down anymore. i must mention that i do have another set just like the one in the pic, but probably a little better shape.

    what i was thinking, using the crap set for parts for the other unit, and use the cabinet for the chassis of the 5e3 clone i built. now the nice thing, i can actually use the speaker and and chassis from the "donor" if i want and then load the output so i don't blow the internal speaker, and also add a jack for a larger speaker on the back.

    kind of like a tube "lunchbox".

    what say you guys?

    I've used a few old radio cases for low wattage harp amp projects.
    My favorite (and the ones I have the most of) being trashed out old Hallicrafters S38 stuff.
    You can have volume treble and bass with the controls as is.
