Faceplate cleaner recommendation

I need to clean a Fender 1972 Twin Reverb faceplate without removing the paint. Any recommendations? Of course I don't expect it to be perfect.

Wipe with a piece of cotton cloth, slightly wet and with very little detergent.
Big problem with Silverface panels is that the aluminum either is poorly anodized or it has a *very* thin transparent varnish applied; in any case it develops some ugly white specks .
Do not use abrasive polishing compound because it will take inscription paint too.
