  • Recommended Enclosure

Hi, first of all I'm sorry if my engllish is not perfect I'm french.

I wanna build my cabs and restore my sunn 4x10 I have some questions:
    - I have the cab of my 4x10, so I have a fixed enclosure, I have to deal with it, so:
to choose the new speaker I have to measure the volume of the cab and divide by 4 and then choose the right speaker who have the same recommanded enclosure? to make short, when on a website, for one speaker it's written "recommanded enclosure = x" the cab had to have a 4x enclosure? right?

thanks a lot and sorry for my english again.

Is it for guitar or bass? If it's guitar, the enclosure size doesn't matter. Guitar speakers work fine in almost any size of box, so just pick any speakers you like.

For bass, you have to be more careful. If it were a sealed cabinet with no ports, then what you said would work, but you don't have to get it exactly right. For instance, Eminence speakers have a range of recommended cabinet volumes, not just a single number.
"Enzo, I see that you replied parasitic oscillations. Is that a hypothesis? Or is that your amazing metal band I should check out?"

      thank you for the answer,
this is for bass cab : to repair my 4x10 sunn bass speaker, and to build the sunn 2x15 bass enclosure and build an 4x12

so ok, the rule "recommended enclosure for one speaker" x 4 = the cab enclosure even if it's a range , I suppose that taken the Higher number (for exemple
45 to 76 ), if I take 76, the cab would have more low end frequencies no?

In general line yes, but beware the final cabinet size considering its portability.
A practical approach is to choose a professionally built one you like and base your own design on it, choosing also similar speakers.
You can't go wrong with that !!
If you like those Sunns, reproduce them and choose good Eminence speakers, that's what they have inside anyway.
The Legend line is based on popular OEM types, sold to the general public.
