I have a woodshop class right now and plan on building a pair of speaker cabinets to make a mini stack. I have a few ideas I’d like to try but want to make sure there are no major problems. First the general specs, I have two 15 inch speakers, an old Jenson and a Utah. I am going to go with open backs to make it a little easier on myself. For the cabinet I want to use… well I don’t know what it is actually but I’ve got a ton of it! I found a pile of this wood laying in my grandfather’s yard and he said he got it off of a boat (it’s not teak). It was used to keep the rocks from denting the metal and hasn’t completely rotted it the 20 plus years it has sat outside so it’s some tough stuff. OK, so now my out there idea, for the baffle I want to make it floating and use an old piano soundboard. It is about ¼ inch thick but also has bracing that should help support the speaker. So what are your thoughts? Will it work? More importantly how will it sound? Thanks!
