  • help needed calculating porting 2 x 12 guitar cab

HI everybody! greetings from mexico; first, thank you a lot for your useful posts, i was able to learn a lot reading here...

well im posting for first time, asking help with my first ever speaker cabinet for guitar, specifically about porting... i need to know the better intonation, or even if is dangerous to my speakers the porting, based on their specs...

during my research ive found so far:

1-that in guitar is needed to tune ports at the resonant peak of speakers to avoid the cabinet become "weak" (mines peak is 90hrz)...
2-that need to be tunned at the lower usable freq to reinforce lows (my speakers min. usable freq. is 70hrz)
3-that ports can be tunned under the lower speaker frecuencies, to allow reproduce lower tones, example 60 hrz...but later read too, that if i do this, response become weak and lifeless for guitar...
4-and even that guitar speakers can damage with porting!!!

so im really concerned, want to bring the better posibble juice from my speakers but didnt want to destroy them or accelerate wear...

my baffle thickness is 0.708" (18mm), i currently had four 3" round cuts without port tube, that if my calculations are correct, tune my box to 74 hrz... (unfortunately i didnt ask before actually cut those!!!), but i wanna know specifically wich diameter and port length is better to my speakers? do i need to cancel holes? cut larger?, or even do frontal bafle again?? actual holes are okay?? please any help regarding this topic are really aprecciated!

    i calculated this way (inches):

    vol of bracings:

    -4 “A” parts: 33.07 x 1.574 x 0.787 = 40.965 x 4 = 163.86
    -4 “B” parts: 17.244 x 1.574 x 0.787 = 21.36 x 4 = 85.44
    -4 “C” parts: 11.496 x 0.984 x 0.984 = 11.13 x 4 = 44.52
    -1 central reinf: 13.07 x 20.39 x 0.708 = 188.68

    sum: 163.86 + 85.44 + 44.52 + 188.68 = 482.50
    ________________________________________________

    cab internal size: 13.07 x 20.39 x 33.07 = 8813.065
    ________________________________________________
    ________________________________________________

    real internal vol, (vol minus bracing): 8813.065 - 482.50 = 8330.565
    ________________________________________________

    total: 8330.565 pg3 = 136.5135 liters = 4.82 ft3

P.D. unfortunately im not that good with english to translate everything, but i did a step by step construction thread here in spanish: "2x12 plywood emminence lil'texas" ...hope this be useful, any explanation please ask...

    and thanks i advice!

    Short answer: don't worry.
Guitar speakers work well (almost) anywhere.
Seat of the pants rule: tune your box to 90/100 Hz, that's where the "thump" is.
    Size? : trust your software.

WOWWW system never give me a alert about your response!! thanks anyway! i tunned to 90 hrz and that thing sounds mounster like big!

anyway i still can tunne to 70 hrz if needed with longer ports

      thanks!
