  • Ampro Tape Recorder Conversion

Hello all. I inherited an old Ampro tape recorder from my grandfather that had a bad power switch, and I was wanting to convert it to a small guitar tube amp utilizing the power and output trannies, the 12ax7, 6aq5, and 6x4 rectifier tube. I was looking to do a very simple circuit, with a power switch, volume pot, and a pilot light. I've included the schematic as it is now, and was wanting to see if anyone could give me some input on a simple circuit to use. Your input is greatly appreciated, thanks!

I built an amp such as you describe. The circuit is a combination of Dave Hunter's Two Stroke and a Fender 5f2 Princeton. I used a 6x4 rectifer tube, 12ax7 preamp tube and a 6aq5 power tube (as you propose). All in all, it turned out very nice. I've attached the layout drawing I made/used and here is a link to some pictures of the project.

It is a bit more complicated than what you envision, but still fairly simple.
