  • AO-35 conversion

I am converting a AO-35. I would love to keep it simple with one tone knob maybe a treble roll off and would love to run the first two triodes in parallel(like a matchless spitfire) if possible if not what would be the simplest way of getting a good sound then i can experiment more I also have a ao-39 i wish to convert after the 35. THanks!

The matchless spitfire or carmen ghia schematic would be easiest to convert from the AO-35 amp. I've done several AO-43 to matchless lightning and 18 watt plexi conversions with great success. Ceriatone clone layouts are helpful if you're just getting started converting and new to reading schematices. Good luck, keep us posted on your progress.

I found this link for the AO-39, very cool:

I just put a tone control before the second stage, and a volume control before the splitter, and reduce the feedback.

Thats all you have to do to get a good sound out of it.

The hard part is making the cab. Here's a pic of one that I shock-mounted it in a 1x15" cab (with a second 15" in an extension cab.)
