  • 5E8-A tweed twin. Volume cuts out at 8

I just finished a clone of a 5E8-A tweed twin and I'm now having some trouble with it. When the volume is set between 1 and 6 the tone is very thin and weak. It sounds similar to out of phase pickups. When the volume is set to 7 or 8 it cuts out even more and the amp becomes almost inaudible. When I turn it up to 9 the volume comes back and it sounds nice and full. When it's cranked to 12 it sound great but the volume is a little lower than you would expect from a 45 watt amp. It sound more like a 20 to 25 watt amp.

The amp has the same problem on all 4 inputs.

Anybody have any idea what might cause something like this?

    Hmmm..., triple-check your wiring

My only other thought is if it is a new build and the vol pot is erratic, you might have a dud, or some solder resin may have flowed into it when you were putting it together - try changing the volume pot maybe?

If it didn't do it on both volume pots then I would think that it was just the pot, but it does do it on both volume pots in exactly the same place. I guess it's possible that 2 pots suffer from the same issue but I think something else is more likely. It's probably something I screwed up in wiring but can't seem to track down exactly where the problem is.
