  • Fender Champ Build Help

I have just finished building my first tube amp---a 5c1 copy. I plugged it in, and nothing happened. I can hear it humming when I switch it to 'on', but neither the power tube or pilot light turn on (the rectifier is SS.) No other sound can be heard. I went over the schematic and layout again, found a problem, fixed it, and the same thing happened.

I doubt both the pilot light and the tube are blown. What could be the problem? I'd really appreciate any help. Thanks!

Disconnect the B+ (if you have any applied) and turn it on. With a multimeter you should be able to measure the (AC) voltage of the heater lines on the power tube. What do you see here? There should be something like 6 VAC between the two heater pins.
Check out my signal generator for your iPhone or iPod Touch.

Hi, Paul Ruby has a timely sheet on the proper procedure for turning on an amp for the first time. It's not going to solve your problem, but it is a good reference for the next build.
