    Well it is noticeably quieter with Aluminium boxes encasing both transformers on the rear of the chassis, although there is still some hum there (but not as mush as before). I'll just keep on twiddling away.

    Also I note that using two diodes in series for the rectifier, with a .01uF high-voltage cap in parallel with each diode, on each side of the HT makes for a much quieter rectifier than just using a single diode on each side of the HT - FWIW
