Hey loudthud,
I've finished the Bad cat build and everything works as it should except that I'm getting more vol from the clean ch than the gain ch, although both channels are pretty loud. It seems like the clean ch has more gain than the gain ch??? Any suggestions?
Do you mean gain or just overall volume. There is a subtle difference. The lead channel should have lots of overdrive (gain) especially with the Master volume turned down, but the clean channel may seem louder because it can hit the phase inverter with a bigger signal. There is a big signal loss in the tone controls and Master Vol pot between V3a and point F.
A couple of things to try: 1) Short out the 220K at point F. This might cause "Blocking distortion" 2) There is a 56K resistor on V3a's cathode. Change it to 100K. 3) Change the Master Volume pot to a 1Meg.
WARNING! Musical Instrument amplifiers contain lethal voltages and can retain them even when unplugged. Refer service to qualified personnel. REMEMBER: Everybody knows that smokin' ain't allowed in school !
Hey Loudthud, Thanks again for your help, I really appreciate it.. What I mean is the overall volume on the clean ch is louder. I'm not getting any overdrive at all on the lead ch. I have to crank the gain, level and Master volume to get any good volume, but it isn't overdriven though. when I back off on the master volume it just gets quieter. I'll try the things you suggested and let you know how it works out.
Hey Loudthud, I've got a DPST switch for the SS/Tube switching and I'm not sure how to hook this up. Looking at the schematic ,shouldn't I have a DPDT? I was just using the rectifier tube before. If I can use a DPST could you give me some pointers on how to best proceed/
