  • Tone Stack Trouble

I've just completed a (P1 xtreme type) SE EL34 amp with FMV placed between 2nd (non-c/f) triode & master volume. It's super quiet & sounds great......just so long as I keep the treble on max! Roll the treble back & there's a loud buzz at the speaker. The pot itself, wiring connections, & continuity, appear good so what have I missed? Cheers.

Have you got a scope, to check for ultrasonic oscillation?
If not, how about if you bypass 1 or other or both of the 12AX7 plates to ground with a large-ish cap, say 0.01uF?
I'm assuming that the buzz goes if the 12AX7 is removed?

Thanks for the advice. All sorted now. It didn't like my coax shield to ground connection at the MV pot on the EL34 grid wire. What a relief & what a sound? Electrically about as silent as you could get yet sonically thunderous. Time to build a cab!
